H16 Main Halyard CompTip
Murrays Part# 002-0273-60
The Hobie 16 main halyard comptip is used to raise the main sail on a Hobie 16 with a comptip on the mast. The main halyard comptip features a long rope section connected to a shorter wire section with a stopper and halyard shackle with a captured pin. The shackle connects to the head of the main sail and the stopper hooks into the main halyard hook and holds the sail up.
Comptip masts are stock on all Hobie 16s since 1986. A comptip is the 10' fiberglass upper mast section of the mast that that is designed to prevent the mast from being able to transfer electricity in the event it were to hit an electrical wire. The fiberglass mast section and the rope halyard line prevent electrical current from traveling down the mast to the sailors onboard.
Comptips can be identified by the seam in the mast just above the mast tang, where the wires connect to the mast. Comptips are often a slightly different color from the lower aluminum mast section. The mast heads between the all aluminum masts and the comptip masts are also different. He comptip masthead has 2 sheaves in it that are about 2" in diameter where the all aluminum mast has one large 6" diameter sheave in it.
This halyard can also be used with an all aluminum mast with the CompTip mast head 20614001 installed.
