Murrays Rigging Department
We use a hydraulic swager that exerts a force of over 10,000 pounds to quickly swage without work-hardening the stainless fittings. Hydraulic swaging produces a cleaner, stronger shroud. Electrolysis is reduced because both wire and marine eye are stainless steel. Wire manufacturers recommend stainless steel marine eye terminal fittings for 1 x 19 wire to assure full rated strength of wire. In all standing rigging applications we use 316 stainless steel wire measured pull to pull. Typically Murrays rigging is made to order and can be ordered to any length. We can add or subtract up to 4" at no extra charge. To order a custom length please enter it in the note field on the checkout page or contact us via chat, e-mail or phone.
A note on coatings. In the early days of beachcat sailing, vinyl or other plastic coatings meant trapped moisture. Our wire rope is drawn though a special machine that prevents any voids. The only way for moisture to wick into the rigging or coorode your wire is if the coating becomes damaged. The coating is especially helpful for reducing mainsail wear as the sail rubs on the shrouds when sailing downwind. We strongly recommend coated wire, which is why it's our standard in most cases. If you would prefer bare wire, please select it or ask for it. It's cheaper for you and easier for us to make rather than stripping the coating after the fact.
