Beachcat Halyard rings: The right way to do to it!
Halyard Hook for H18, H20, H17
Ensure your halyard ring is oriented with the stopper knot facing the mast. This pulls the ring towards the hook. If there is an offset, ensure that the offset is opposite the hook. Pull firmly on the halyard until the sail makes a click noise and you feel a mechanical click too. You may need to pivot the mast, but typically not.
To release:
Release all rotation controls and downhaul on sail.
Orient boat such that the boat is pointed head to wind.
Push up a bit of the sail at the tack so there are some wrinkles in the luff.
Pull on the halyard until the sail moves up or you see your wrinkles soften a bit. (MAINTAIN HALYARD TENSION)
Pivot the mast towards the side with the halyard hook on it.
(Solid H18 Mast will pivot to port)
(Comptip H18 or H20 will pivot to starboard)
Hold the rotation arm in line with the front crossbar.
Release the halyard tension.
Pull down on the tack of the sail. The sail may not move yet, keep pulling!
Gently release mast rotation until the sail starts to come down.
TADA!
